That special day is coming up. You know the one, when we celebrate the most important women in our lives, our mothers. Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 11th this year, which also happens to be smack in the middle of gardening season.

If you have a mom, partner, wife, or other special mama in your life who’s a gardener, you have hit the gift-giving jackpot. Gardeners are some of the easiest people to find gifts for. We love just about anything related to plants and outdoor living.

The array of gardening gifts available for Mother’s Day can be mind-boggling. If you’re not a gardener yourself, you could easily get overwhelmed. Fortunately, we are here to guide you along the way to finding that perfect gift that will have your special lady outside with her hands in the dirt before you can get to that dinner reservation. Here are some of our favorites Mother’s Day gifts for garden lovers!

Flower Bulbs

  • Versatile Growing Options

If you know anything about plants, you might be looking at this and thinking, this is not the right time for bulbs. And in some cases, you would be entirely correct. Spring bloomers like tulips and daffodils go in the ground in the fall, and you don’t want Mom to have to store your gift for the next six months.

The bulbs I’m talking about are summer bloomers like cannas, begonias, lilies, and dahlias. You can put these in the ground in late spring and early summer for gorgeous summer and fall flowers. Dahlias and begonias can bloom all the way to the first frost.

Bulbs are small and easy to wrap. Pop a pretty bag full of them into a decorative watering can or hand-painted flowerpot. We moms love homemade gifts that remind us of our sweet kiddos.

Does she enjoy growing things from seeds? Many people prefer this method because it saves money and allows for the growth of larger numbers and access to a wider variety. Seed starting might be the perfect gift for your mother.

Starting seeds is one of those things that can be both simple and complicated at the same time. Sure, you can toss a handful of seeds into some dirt and see what happens. You can also be meticulous about soil temperature, light, drainage, the whole deal.

If she’s a seed person, get her some seed starting gear to help refine her process. A heating mat can be a game changer in winter and spring. You can get started earlier with a grow light. Don’t forget about some extra sturdy, reusable seed starting cells! If she’s new to the seed-starting business, send her a kit with all the necessary items.

Fertilizer

  • Promotes bigger blooms
  • Microbe enhanced all natural organic fertilizer with no sludges or fillers

Every gardening mama can use some fertilizer (Insert dad joke here). But really, fertilizer may be stinky, but it does amazing things for your plants. And hey, she’s a mom, she’s used to working with stinky things!

Are you giving her a beautiful live plant or a selection of unique seeds? Add them to a basket with some organic starter fertilizer to get her off on the right foot. Is she a crunchy mom with a sense of humor? Worm castings will be a welcome gift. If she loves an adventure, a vermiculture kit will keep her busy all summer.

A Weeding Tool

CobraHead Original Weeder & Cultivator

  • Versatile Multi-Use Tool
  • Precision Blade for Tough Soil
  • Ergonomic Handle for Comfort
  • Out-Weeds and Out-Digs Competitors

Your mom doesn’t like weeding her garden, I promise. Weeding is an inevitable, essential, and unpleasant task. It is the diaper changing of gardening. Weeding by hand can be time-consuming and arduous.

Give her a weeder and cultivator to get the job done quickly and easily. This will get those nuisance plants out at the roots, so they won’t come back. Throw in one of those kid coupons for two free hours of pulling weeds if you really want to win her heart this year. You’ll definitely get the favorite child award.

Loppers

Felco 211-60 Lopper

Felco 211-60 Lopper
  • Curved Cutting Head for Efficiency
  • Durable and Rugged Design
  • Lightweight Aluminum Handles with Shock Absorbers
  • Ultra-Sharp Blade for Clean Cuts
  • Ergonomic, Non-Slip Grips for Comfort

Does she wish she had a bit more reach? I know I do. As a short mama, my loppers are an integral tool in my shed. They extend my reach, as well as being large enough to cut through more substantial branches.

The FELCO 211-60 loppers have a curved cutting head and an extra-sharp blade to make pruning easier. The aluminum handles are lightweight but strong enough for larger jobs. Rubber shock absorbers mean her hands won’t lock up after a few minutes.

If mom has a patio, she has room for a Greenstalk. I love the Epic Oasis color. It’s ours exclusively. If she prefers a more traditional look, the terracotta color is classic. Add some seeds to get her started.

A fruit tree is a gift that will bring years of enjoyment and sweet, delicious fruit! Before making a purchase of this size, ensure you find out what grows best in her climate zone. If she’s a Southern gardener, go with a peach tree over an apple

There are so many beautiful trees to choose from when it comes to fruit. A pomegranate tree is a conversation piece that produces beautiful pomegranates. If you’ve never seen a fruit cocktail tree, you’ve got to check one out!

My favorite seed bundle for gifting is the Botanical Interests Herbal Tea Garden Gift Set. Not only are these plants all good for making delicious teas, but they also smell wonderful and make great pollinator attractors.

Chicken Keeping Gear

Chickens are all the rage right now! If your mom is an empty nester, why not help her get started filling it back up with chickens? Now, live animals are never an appropriate present, unless you’ve expressly asked ahead of time. However, if your mother has been hinting at getting some birds, there are several things she will need to get started.

If mom wants to start with chicks, she will need a brooder and a heating plate. If she plans on raising a fair-sized flock, she will want feeders that accommodate plenty of feed. Don’t forget an automatic door to keep her hens safe from predators. This will make her evenings far less stressful.

Self-Watering Planter

Rim Modern Self Watering Planter

For the plant-loving mother with a demanding schedule, a self-watering planter is a perfect gift. She can enjoy her plants without worrying about getting too busy to maintain a good watering schedule. There are numerous options to suit any style. I like this large, classic planter in the natural terracotta color.

Raised Bed

Small Cedar Elevated Planter

Raised beds are a game-changer. Do you have compacted soil? Is it sandy and lacking nutrients? There are so many issues that you can correct with a raised bed or a large planter box

I prefer metal beds on the ground, as they are extra long-lasting. Birdies are incomparable in quality and appearance. I like cedar beds on my deck for a more harmonious look. Whatever Mom’s style is, she will put a raised bed to good use. Don’t forget the soil!

Olla Watering Kit

Olla Watering Kit

Olla Watering Kit
  • Water-Efficient System
  • Easy Installation
  • Versatile for Any Garden
  • Saves Water and Reduces Waste
  • Complete Kit Included

View at Epicgardening.com

If you really want to impress Mom with your gardening prowess, an olla watering kit is a great gift. An olla is an ancient watering technique that is amazing for reducing water waste and keeping things alive when you can’t water every day. It’s made of terracotta, which is a porous material. Fill the olla with water, and it will slowly seep through the pot into the ground.

Overhead and even drip irrigation lose water to evaporation. With an olla, her plants get all the water, and none of it goes to waste. Help her out by burying them in the garden for her.
