There’s nothing like a strawberry picked fresh from the garden. Pink-flowering strawberries produce not only the prized summer fruits, but also do so with a darling ornament. There’s an irresistible appeal to strawberries with pink flowers brimming over a hanging basket or trailing from a pot. These pretty selections bridge the vegetable bed and ornamental border as a low groundcover. Just be sure to place them where you can admire their prettiness up close and for easy picking.
Strawberries are easy-to-grow herbaceous perennials that pack all their might into flowering and fruiting in a single season. The genus Fragaria holds about 12 species of strawberries and numerous cultivars bearing fruits from scarlet to white to purple. Their five-petaled flowers are usually bright white with yellow centers, sweet and showy, and bring a unique ornamental twist in pink. Dark green leaves of three line the stems in an attractive backdrop.
Strawberries produce berries at varying times depending on the cultivar. June-bearing strawberries feature a hefty yield of large berries early in the season. Everbearing varieties produce smaller berries throughout the growing season. They bring a continual burst of sweetness to beds, borders, and containers. Flowers and berries emerge in a heavy flush in spring and about every six weeks until fall’s frost. The neat habit allows them to thrive in pots while we enjoy seeing (and picking) the suspended berries.
Plant strawberry crowns in the spring in northern climates where they enjoy the cool, mild summer temperatures. In climates with hot summers, plant them in the fall to enjoy in the cool months. You can also get an early start by starting seeds indoors before the frost date for your area.
Strawberries with pink flowers are seriously sweet, from bloom to berry. Don’t forget pineberries, either, for extra ornament. The white strawberry hybrid with a light pineapple flavor and pink-blushed fruits is a cute and tasty pairing with pink flowers.
‘Berried Treasure Pink’

height 12-16″ |
|
hardiness zones 4-9 |
‘Berried Treasure Pink’ heaps on the charm with pink semi-double blooms on a robust form. With a full, mounding habit that reaches over one foot tall, the little gems create a showy presence on their own or in a mixed arrangement. The little ruffly pink blossoms have yellow centers that attract pollinators, such as bees.
‘Berried Treasure’ is an everbearing strawberry for continual harvests and repeat flowering. It develops short runners over time, which add interest as they trail over a container edge (or, give them a trim to keep the plants contained). Heat-tolerant and disease-resistant, this strawberry with pink flowers charms across the board.
While some varieties need a season under their belt before fruiting, ‘Berried Treasure’ produces in the first year. Whether from transplant or growing from seed started indoors, you’ll have pink blossoms and flavorful berries the same summer.
‘Toscana’

|
botanical name Fragaria x ananassa ‘Toscana’ |
---|---|
|
sun requirements Full sun |
|
height 6-12″ |
|
hardiness zones 4-9 |
The ‘Toscana’ strawberry enchants with deep carmine-pink flowers with sunny golden centers. The everbearing type yields flowers and fruits until the first frost. With restrained runners, ‘Toscana’ trails in a hanging basket or at the container edge.
‘Toscana’ quickly reaches its mature height where it punches up seasonal annual plantings, the herb bed, or adds visual interest massed in a pot. Sweet, juicy red fruits follow the blooms. The showy pink-flowered strawberry is a FleuroStar award winner.
‘Toscana’ is a fit across garden scales, including small spaces like patios and balconies. After harvesting, trim stems and remove aged leaves. This allows sunlight to reach the crown and the flushing new growth.
‘Rainbow Treasure’

|
botanical name Fragaria x ananassa ‘Rainbow Treasure’ |
---|---|
|
sun requirements Full sun |
|
height 8-12″ |
|
hardiness zones 4-9 |
‘Rainbow Treasure’ features multiple hues between three flower colors and the scarlet fruits. In addition to pink blossoms, there are white and deep rose flowers for an all-over soft dazzle. Sizeable berries are sweet and aromatic, with a yield the same season, whether from transplants or started early from seed indoors.
‘Rainbow Treasure’ has creeping stems that make a pretty groundcover among perennials, the border edge, or around fruiting shrubs like blueberries. Still perfect for vertical planters and pots, the bushy habit, running stems, and multi-tones of this pink-flowered strawberry bring delicate ornament and tasty fruits.
‘Rainbow Treasure’ shows good disease resistance on uniform plants. As they have a long germination period (three to four weeks or more), opt for crowns or start seeds indoors in February or March for berries later in summer.
‘Tarpan’

|
botanical name Fragaria x ananassa ‘Tarpan’ |
---|---|
|
sun requirements Full sun |
|
height 10-12″ |
|
hardiness zones 5-8 |
‘Tarpan’ brings rich pinks to the mix. Fuchsia, semi-double blooms with yellow centers, stand out in the patch. The everbearing hybrid is an alpine strawberry, which often produces petite fruits and small, pink flowers. ‘Tarpan’ shows more robust growth and flowering than the species. The blooms are also larger, and of course, instead of bright white, this pink flowering strawberry pops against the green foliage.
The berries from ‘Tarpan’ are small to medium in size and emerge until fall’s frost. The firm berries boast good flavor, sweet and prime for fresh eating right off the stem.
‘Tristan’

|
botanical name Fragaria x ananassa ‘Tristan’ |
---|---|
|
sun requirements Full sun |
|
height 6-10″ |
|
hardiness zones 5-8 |
‘Tristan’ is a petite strawberry with loads of pink flowers. Also sold under the name ‘Berries Galore Rose™,‘ the prolific bloomer yields one-inch berries for regular picking all summer (every three to four days in optimal growing conditions). The fruits are flavorful, sugary, and aromatic. Large, deep rose flowers are striking against the glossy green foliage.
‘Tristan’ begins blooming early for extended flowering and fruiting. The gentle spreader with few runners reaches 18 to 24 inches wide to fill the planter or hanging basket.
‘Gasana’

|
botanical name Fragaria x ananassa ‘Gasana’ |
---|---|
|
sun requirements Full sun |
|
height 12″ |
|
hardiness zones 4-8 |
‘Gasana’ is a top-performing seedling of the prized ‘Toscana.’ Truly pretty in pink, ‘Gasana’ features big, bright pink blossoms and richly sweet, conical fruits. The ruffly petals are showy from spring to fall, with berries beginning in early summer.
‘Gasana’ produces runners to form a low groundcover or trailing focal point in window boxes, raised beds, and vertical towers. The everbearing type may be semi-evergreen in frost-free climates.
‘Ruby Ann’

|
botanical name Fragaria x ananassa ‘Ruby Ann’ |
---|---|
|
sun requirements Full sun |
|
height 8-12″ |
|
hardiness zones 4-8 |
‘Ruby Ann’ isn’t technically a pink-flowering strawberry but deserves a spot on our list (and in our hanging baskets) for ruby-red flowers to match the deep red fruits. The compact selection is a robust producer all season.
‘Ruby Ann’ is part of a hanging Berry Basket™ series from ABZ Seeds. The vigorous plants produce a few runners to cascade for easy picking, not to mention the showmanship of the unique flowers. The seeds have uniform germination (an attribute among the reds, which can be slower and more sporadic than whites and pinks).
‘Ruby Ann’s’ berries are medium in size with good flavor. Garnish the dish, salad, or dessert with the blossoms if you can spare them. The red blooms with yellow stamens are a pollinator draw, too.
